WHAT CAN I DO WITH THE CERT?

The JJ-CCR Helitrox Decompression Procedures Diver course will allow you to dive your JJ-CCR to a maximum of 45 meters/150 feet with a buddy using either air, nitrox, or trimix (no greater than 35% He +/- 5% and no less than 21% O2) diluent as needed for the dive in accordance with TDI standards.

JJ-CCR HELITROX COURSE DETAILS

Let’s face it, helium is ridiculously expensive, and if you are planning on using trimix on decompression dives, sooner or later, it’s worth the investment to go closed circuit. If you are already a JJ-CCR Air Diluent or Decompression Procedures Diver, adding helium to your breathing gas will reduce narcosis and work of breathing (and make you talk funny!).

WHERE WILL I DIVE DURING THE JJ-CCR HELITROX DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES COURSE?

JJ-CCR Helitrox Decompression Procedures Diver training is conducted in Mexico’s natural pools: the cenotes. There are several deep open water sites such as Angelita, Orquidea, and Kaan Luum, and students also have the option of ocean dives at a slight additional fee depending upon the boat costs and requirements. Both the inland dive sites such as Cenote Angelita and Laguna Kaan Luum and the ocean dive sites off of Puerto Aventuras and Akumal offer clear, warm water and ideal training conditions.

WHAT WILL I LEARN DURING THE JJ-CCR HELITROX DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES COURSE?

Under the Jungle’s JJ-CCR Helitrox Decompression Procedures Training is conducted through TDI, and will cover equipment workshops, dive theory, confined water skills, and scenario practice.

⇒ EQUIPMENT WORKSHOPS

If you are already familiar with the JJCCR, great! The equipment used for helitrox decompression procedures will be similar to the equipment for air diluent diving with the optional addition of a 6 liter (40 cubic foot) O2 bottle. For divers who are crossing over from another unit, we will cover everything from set-up and breakdown, to equipment maintenance and key differences between the JJ-CCR and your previous unit.

⇒ JJ-CCR THEORY

We will review basic CCR theory as needed, and then focus on the unique theory for decompression and trimix diving. You’ll calculate gas requirements including bailout needs, and plan your dives based on oxygen and nitrogen limitations.

⇒  CONFINED WATER SKILLS ON THE JJ-CCR

The main difference between the air diluent level and the helitrox decompression procedures level will, of course, be executing decompression stops and dealing with bailout from deeper depths as well as utilizing helium in your breathing gas mixtures. We’ll also cover dropping and retrieving bailout cylinders and managing gas hemorrhages. In addition, we will run through the following skills during a checkout dive/skill evaluation in shallow confined water, and spot teach any skills that need reviewing:

• Pre-dive checks
• Establishing neutral buoyancy
• PO2 monitoring/awareness
• Proper kicking techniques
• Establishing minimum and ideal loop volume
• Constant loop volume management
• Controlled ascents and descents
• Mouthpiece familiarity drills
• Bailout drills
• Cell verification drills
• High-O2 and low-O2 procedures
• Dewatering the loop
• Manual PO2 management
• Mask removal and replacement
• SMB deployment
• Managing a CO2 breakthrough
• Loss of O2
• Loss/depleted diluent
• Electronics failure
• Gas extender drills
• Surfacing and towing an incapacitated CCR diver

OPEN WATER CCR DIVES AND SCENARIO PRACTICE

Open water dives under the supervision of your JJ-CCR instructor will allow you to practice and hone the skills you’ve developed in the confined water in a safe manner. This will give you a chance to refine and master your skills, and gain confidence with your JJ-CCR.
