The Air Diluent CCR Diver course will allow you to dive your JJ-CCR to a maximum of 30 meters/ 100 feet with a buddy.

JJ-CCR AIR DILUENT DETAILS

Jaques Cousteau wrote about “the silent world” but if you’ve never tried CCR diving, you’ve never truly experienced it! The JJ-CCR is one of the most well-designed and constructed E-CCR units in existence, and divers routinely use it in the most extreme dive environments on the planet. You don’t have to start extreme, though. No place is better to start your CCR career than the crystal clear water of the Mexican cenotes, from shallow confined water sites to deep sites, we have it all! And we’re happy to schedule some ocean dives during or after your course (upon request) to maximize your experience in different dive environments.

WHERE WILL I DIVE DURING THE JJ-CCR AIR DILUENT COURSE?

JJ-CCR Air Diluent Diver training is conducted in the clear, warm water of the Mexican cenotes and inland lagoons. Cenotes are open water dive sites (as opposed to caverns or caves) with direct access to the surface. We’ll start the training in shallow, confined water sites such as Cenote Ponderosa and Cenote Carwash, then move to deeper sites such as Laguna Kaan Luum, Cenote Orquidea, and Cenote Angelita. Ocean diving is also available upon request but may require a slight surcharge depending on boat fees and whether or not you prefer a private boat.

WHAT WILL I LEARN DURING THE JJ-CCR AIR DILUENT COURSE?

Under the Jungle’s JJ-CCR Air Diluent Training is conducted through TDI, and will cover equipment workshops, dive theory, confined water skills, and scenario practice.

⇒ EQUIPMENT WORKSHOPS

Rebreathers are not mysterious, but it’s still essential to review the basics of JJ-CCR function with your instructor. CCR diving is potentially one of the most equipment- intense types of diving, and we want you to truly understand your unit! We’ll go over equipment set up and checklists, as we all as cleaning, maintenance, and diagnosing common issues during our equipment workshops.

⇒ JJ-CCR THEORY

One key difference between rebreather diving and open circuit diving is that you are essentially creating your breathing gas mixture on the fly during your dive. This means it’s important that you understand the pros and cons of different gas mixtures, as well as essential oxygen theory for scuba divers — such as understanding PPO2, CNS toxicity, and so forth. We’ll cover all this in detail and make sure you are prepared to dive your JJ-CCR safely.

Planning also plays a key role in safe CCR diving. We’ll train you to safely plan your dives including gas requirements, MODs, safety stops, CNS exposure, and bailout planning.

⇒  CONFINED WATER SKILLS ON THE JJ-CCR

To be safe on your JJ-CCR, it’s important to learn to deal with common mistakes proficiently and to be able to manage emergency scenarios. During this course we will cover:

• Pre-dive checks
• Establishing neutral buoyancy
• PO2 monitoring/awareness
• Proper kicking techniques
• Establishing minimum and ideal loop volume
• Constant loop volume management
• Controlled ascents and descents
• Mouthpiece familiarity drills
• Bailout drills
• Cell verification drills
• High-O2 and low-O2 procedures
• Dewatering the loop
• Manual PO2 management
• Mask removal and replacement
• SMB deployment
• Managing a CO2 breakthrough
• Loss of O2
• Loss/depleted diluent
• Electronics failure
• Gas extender drills
• Surfacing and towing an incapacitated CCR diver

OPEN WATER CCR DIVES AND SCENARIO PRACTICE

Open water dives under the supervision of your JJ-CCR instructor will allow you to practice and hone the skills you’ve developed in the confined water in a safe manner. This will give you a chance to refine and master your skills, and gain confidence with your JJ-CCR.
