• Prerequisite Courses Can Be Combined With the Advanced Trimix Course

It’s possible to dive below 60 meters/ 200 feet, but air or normoxic trimix won’t get you there safely. Breathing these blends below 60 meters puts the diver at severe risk of oxygen toxicity. The solution is to use a hypoxic trimix blend; a blend containing a lower percentage of oxygen than air. The TDI Advanced Trimix Course certifies divers to descend down to 100 meters/ 330 feet by using a variety of gas blends, including hypoxic trimix (to reduce the risk of oxygen toxicity and narcosis) and oxygen for decompression (to lower decompression obligations or increase conservatism). There’s a lot to learn when starting out with hypoxic trimix, but the ability to visit uncharted wrecks, see the dark part of the ocean, or venture into deep caves is well worth your time and effort.

WHERE WILL I DIVE DURING THE COURSE?

Confined water practice takes place in the open water of the cenotes, and theory if taught at the classroom at Under the Jungle. Check out dives and skill scenarios take place in the ocean, where you have the chance to experience the joy of vertical free fall down coral walls. If for any reason the ocean is blown out, we have the option to conduct check out dives in one of the many deep lagoons nearby. Let us know if you are already a certified cave diver, you have some very interesting options in the deeper caves in the area.

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE ADVANCED TRIMIX COURSE?

The TDI Advanced Trimix Course includes confined water skill work and stage handling, four open water stage decompression dives, and a thorough review of dive theory.

⇒ ADVANCED TRIMIX DIVE THEORY TOPICS

• Explanation of the physiology of hypoxia
• Review of the physics of breathing helium
• Information about the physiology of breathing helium
• In-depth review of decompression strategies.
• Equipment workshop and considerations
• Dive table refresher
• Explanation of dive planning including hypoxic trimix
• Definition and review of isobaric counter diffusion

⇒ IN-WATER SKILLS AND SCENARIO PRACTICE

• How to manage three stage cylinders
• Stage bottle drop and recovery while maintaining position
• Lift bag deployment while air sharing
• Gas switching using team diving protocols
• Switch to a contingency dive plan at depth
• Reviews of skills presented in previous courses
* Per standards, no skills are performed on deep trimix dives.
* Dive skills are reviewed during practice dives.
