The cavern dives at Casa Cenote are unique: the cavern tunnels and ceilings are composed almost entirely of mangrove roots. The light effects at Casa Cenote are best in the early morning or later afternoon during the summer months, when schools of juvenile fish hide among the roots for protection. This is possible because Casa Cenote connects to the ocean through a short cave passageway. Juvenile fish such are tarpon spend their childhoods at the cenote until they are big enough for the open ocean.
